Years of Experience
Robert Trosset III
Owner / Captain / Instructor
Robert Trosset III grew up with the Gulf Flats as his backyard. Whenever he could, he would go off exploring mangrove islands, catching fish and learning his way around the beautiful Florida Keys waters. After graduating from college, he moved back to Key West and started running various boats for other companies. It only took a few years for Robert to realize there was a serious gap for scuba divers wanting a more personal scuba dive experience in Key West. Taking what he learned from the dive industry and from college, Robert was able to bring the small island scuba dive feel to Key West with Finz.
Captain / Divemaster
Rob has been working with Finz and living in Key West since 2018. From northeastern Pennsylvania, Rob has been diving since 1986. He spent 30 years of his career in retail management before he decided to pursue his dream. The South Pacific, Meditteranean, and Indian Oceans are just a few of the places where Rob has spent time in the water; he especially enjoyed diving in Bora Bora. Rob’s favorite part of working for Finz is meeting new and interesting people from all over the world. He enjoys all of the very nice reefs in the area, particularly dive trips out to the Dry Tortugas. Rob is also an avid spearfisherman.
Captain / Dive Instructor
Mike is a native Floridian who has been running boats and teaching diving in Key West for 10 years. He holds a Marine Environmental and Business degree. Mike loves being able to educate others about the reef ecosystem and sharing his passion with Finz guests. He enjoys spearfishing, especially in the Dry Tortugas.
Captain / Dive Instructor
Nick is a Dive Instructor and Captain with Finz. Having grown up in Vermont, he first began diving in Lake Champlain in 2009. Nick earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology and completed his Master’s research in Marine Biology at California State University, Chico. He has worked in research and education for over eight years, including working in the Bahamas and sailing in the South Pacific. He first came to the Keys in 2012 to work as a Marine Science Educator, and most recently has been living in Key West since 2018. Nick’s favorite types of dives are night dives, wreck dives, and freediving. He is an avid spearfisherman and underwater photographer. He enjoys working at Finz because of the small ratio of staff to customers; he says that this intimate nature of the business allows him to go above and beyond for every customer to ensure that everyone has a safe and fun time. Nick appreciates the opportunities to go to a more diverse number of places and foster experiences in diving that are not possible with high volume tour operators.
Captain / Master Scuba Diver Trainer
John is a Captain and Master Scuba Diver Trainer who has been diving for 26 years, working as an instructor for 12 years, and working as a captain for a decade. Having grown up in Chicago, John has traveled extensively — he ran trips to the Cayman Islands and Bonaire, and lived in Palau, the Virgin Islands, and Hawaii, where he lived for 6 years. John moved to Key West in 2020 but previously lived in the Upper Keys. He holds a BES in Sport Management and the Diving Industry from Barry University in Miami. John loves the dive sites around the Keys, the wrecks (especially the Vandenberg), spearfishing, and night diving. He enjoys working at Finz because the small group sizes allow him to pay personal attention to each guest. John’s favorite animal is the cuttlefish.
Morgan works with Finz as a Dive Instructor and is working towards his captain’s license. Originally from West Chester, Pennsylvania, he previously lived in Key West for 6 years and just moved back recently. Morgan has been diving since 2012 and particularly enjoys wreck dives, deep dives, and spearfishing. He enjoys working for Finz because the custom dive trips allow more personal interaction with customers, the work is rewarding and every day is different. An Army veteran, Morgan has a Bachelor’s degree in Supervision and Management, and an AAS in Diving Business and Technology. He has been diving in Honduras, Mexico, Belize and the Bahamas. His favorite marine animal is the octopus.
Sydney is a Divemaster who began diving in 2019. Originally from southern Illinois, she lived in Southeast Asia for two years and worked at a dive shop in Indonesia for four months. Sydney has a BA in Marketing from Southern Illinois University. New to Key West, she moved here because it has the best diving in the state of Florida. She enjoys working for Finz because it provides an opportunity to learn about the fishing and diving industry. One of her best dives was in Indonesia over Nusa Panida where she saw both whale sharks and dolphins.
